Cassidy martin, southern Word youth poet. About, founded in 2008, southern Word is 501(c)3 non-profit based out of Nashville,. We offer writing and music production programs that inspire and engage youth, improve academic and life skills, and create safe, connected learning communities. The program also speaks to social emotional needs, such as adverse home conditions, cultural differences, and identity challenges, which traditionally go under-addressed. We seek to develop powerful communicators, provide the tools necessary to increase the ability of students to write, listen and speak. Currently, we serve 5,000 students annually across eight Tennessee counties. Through partnerships with public schools, colleges, public libraries and other community organizations, southern Word has created a continuum of programming that connect in-school and out-of-school learning, k-12 to college education, and young leader to professional economies.
